It lies in the Rupshu plateau, inhabited by the famous Changpa nomads.

The climb is a mix of climbing up icy slopes, traversing snow slopes and crossing boulder fields and the conditions are dynamic depending on the time of the year. Views of Chamsher (6,620m) & Lungser Kangri (6,666m) across the expanse of Tso Morriri is magical, especially on the summit day!

This Mentok Kangri itinerary is focused only on Mentok expeditions other than that you can include Rumtse Tsomoriri trek. Which helps your body acclimatize well and it will help you on the summit day.

Day one: Arrival in Leh

After you land in Leh, we recommend that you take a rest to help your body adjust to the altitude of Leh (3,500 meters above sea level). Taking plenty of fluids will aid in oxygen absorption and reduce the risk of AMS.

In the evening, one of our team members will meet you to discuss the plan for the following days. They may also check your pulse rate and assess your health response to the altitude.

Day two: Acclimatization Day

This day is designated for acclimatization as well, as it is beneficial to stay at the same altitude for an extended period for the coming days. We recommend a short trek around Leh, or our guide can take you to the upper areas of Leh for a brief hike.

Day three: Leh to Korzok

It’s a 5-6 hour drive from Leh to Korzok. On the way you will witness some of the most spectacular scenic beauties and wildlife of Ladakh. Also along this route, there are few hot spring waters and one of them is Chumathang hot spring.

Day four: Korzok to Base Camp

Today we make our way up to the base camp for Mentok Kangri. Although it’s just a six-hour day, it feels like a long day as it’s uphill all the way, with some moraine walking as well and we try and camp as close to the mountain as possible, as that would reduce the time taken by us on summit day.

Day five: Training and Rest

Today we will prepare for the summit, this includes checking gears, acclimatization and our technician will teach you about the proper use of gears. This also includes techniques required to climb up and climb down.

Day six: Summit Day

The day starts very early today, as we’ll give you a wake-up call at around midnight. We start at around 1 and make our way through big boulders for the first hour or two. In some sections, the rocks are really loose and we have to scramble for about 15-20 minutes. It’s a very steep climb to the ridge and once there the summit is only about an hour and half away. The view from the summit is unparalleled. For the first time in days, we will be able to see Tso-moriri lake, end-to-end.

Day seven: Base Camp

A very short day today, as we descended for about two-three hours, all the way to Karzok village.

Day eight: Back to Leh

Its again around 6 hour drive back to Leh. You can visit Puga hot spring while going back.
